Institute at a Glance
The Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), established and fully funded by the Reserve Bank of India, is a premier research and teaching institute focused on development issues from a multidisciplinary perspective.
Founded in 1986 and inaugurated in 1987 by then Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi, IGIDR was later recognized as a Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act.
Initially a research-only institute, IGIDR launched its Ph.D. programme in 1990, followed by the M.Phil in 1995 and M.Sc. in 2003. Today, it hosts around 188 members, including 26 faculty and 140 students.

To further support research and learning, the library offers access to CD-ROM databases, providing a wealth of archived and specialized information. Additionally, inter-library loan arrangements enable users to borrow resources from other institutions, expanding the availability of scholarly materials. Embracing digital advancements, the library provides seamless access to electronic resources through a campus-wide Ethernet network, allowing students and researchers to explore a vast array of online journals, e-books, and databases from anywhere on campus. This well-equipped facility fosters an environment conducive to in-depth study, innovation, and academic excellence
