Computer centre

The institute provides advanced Information Technology (IT) infrastructure to support academic, research, and administrative activities. The Institute’s Computer Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art hardware, networking equipment, software resources, and dedicated help desk services. The entire campus is networked through an Ethernet-based LAN on a fiber optic segmented backbone and connected to the Internet via a 500 Mbps leased line. In addition, the campus is fully Wi-Fi enabled, with network services extended to staff residences. Secure Intranet and VPN access are available, and messaging and collaboration services are facilitated through Google Workspace and Microsoft Office 365. Online teaching, learning, and meetings are supported by Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
Hardware
The Computer Centre hosts high-performance servers, storage systems, and a Desktop Virtualization Infrastructure (VDI) with Hyperconverged and Server Virtualization technologies. The infrastructure includes Intel-based multimedia workstations, advanced switches, routers, firewalls, and Wi-Fi access points, ensuring seamless connectivity across the campus. Printing and scanning facilities are widely accessible, comprising multifunctional printers in faculty and staff offices, high-speed network HP laser printers in all office blocks, and specialized devices such as colour scanners and visualizers. Backup solutions are provided through cloud storage, network storage, and external devices (USB HDD/SSD and Pen drives). Facilities for multimedia presentations and conferencing are available, including interactive boards, LCD projectors, and advanced audio-visual systems.
Software
Servers operate on the latest Linux and Windows server platforms, while workstations run Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Fedora) alongside Windows 10/11. The Centre provides a comprehensive suite of econometric and statistical software, including SAS, RATS, STATA, Mathematica, MATLAB, and EViews, as well as productivity tools such as Microsoft Office and Office 365. The Institute also subscribes to leading corporate and research databases, including PROWESS, Capital Line, and Indiastat.com, along with access to other national and international data sources.
Training and Support
The Computer Centre regularly organizes training programmes, orientation sessions, and seminars on software applications, research databases, and emerging IT tools. These initiatives are designed to enhance the digital competencies of the IGIDR user community and ensure effective utilization of available IT resources.
